Born on 17th March, 1955, Dr. (Mrs.) Ashiv Mehta obtained her Masters degree in Botany from PAU, Ludhiana and Ph. D. degree in agricultural Botany from CCS University, Meerut (UP). She joined A.R.S. in 1977 and is presently Principal Scientist (Plant Physiology) at CPRS, Jalandhar (Punjab). She has published 60 research papers/reviews/book chapters and 25 Technical Bulletins/Extension folders/popular articles/documentary films on physiological/applied aspects of potato storage and presented 40 conference papers including a lead lecture and an invited paper. She has developed a low cost technology for on-farm storage of potatoes in heaps which is a simple method for glut crisis management and can profitably be used to preserve the quality of processing potatoes at significantly lower storage cost. She has also identified several eco-friendly volatile compounds as potential replacements for chemical sprout inhibitor treatment of potatoes.
