   Dr. Satya Vir Singh

Dr. Singh, a plant breeder, started his career Central Potato Research Station, Mukteswar, (Nainital) /Daurala (UP) in 1971. He has been associated in development of 7 high yielding potato varieties including India's first processing cvs. Kufri Chipsona-1 and Kufri Chipsona-2 and heat tolerant cv. Kufri Surya. He has also devised a simple and practical technique for rapid multiplication of seed stock using sprouts with which a multiplication rate of 1: 70 times can be achieved. Dr. Singh was also involved in development of technology for production of potatoes for processing and Capsule for round the year availability of potatoes for processing from North-Western and Central plains. He has published more than 100 research articles. For his achievements, he has been presented with ICAR award for outstanding multi-disciplinary team research(1997-99) and IPA Kaushalya Sikka Memorial Award (2005) for outstanding contribution to potato. He is also a Fellow of Horticultural Society of India.
