Dr. Sharma, a soil chemist, has made valuable contribution in development of several rapid methods of soil and plant tests for essential elements, with particular reference to potato. He has also developed fertilizer schedules for potato and potato based cropping systems for different potato growing zones. In recognition of his work, he was conferred upon the FAI Silver Jubilee Award (1981) and Phosphate and Potash Institute, Canada/FAI Award (1993). He pioneered the work on water management in potato. Dr. Sharma has published over 120 scientific papers and authored many bulletins/book chapters.
